What will happen?
When you contact Kinergy, you will be offered an assessment appointment. This will give you the opportunity to meet us and get a feel for what we can offer you. After that, if you wish to go ahead with counselling, you will be put on our waiting list.
How can I access the service?
You can contact us direct on the telephone number or email address on the contacts page. If you feel unsure about making the contact yourself, you can ask a supporter to do it for you. It is generally best if you can do it yourself.
How long will I have to wait for an assessment?
Usually only two to three weeks. Sometimes it is a bit longer than that depending on how many people have been in contact with us. Holiday periods can also sometimes cause a bit longer delay.
How long will I have to wait for counselling to start?
It will depend to some extent on how flexible you can be in terms of days and times for appointments. The more options you are able to give us, the quicker we are likely to be able to see you. Generally, clients are waiting between three and six months for an appointment.
Who will know I’m having counselling?
No-one needs to know and we will not discuss your relationship with us with anyone without first checking with you. Counsellors do discuss clients at supervision but they would not refer to you by anything more than your first name. The purpose of supervision is to ensure that they are able to give you the best support possible.
What if I miss an appointment?
If you can give us advance notice that you will be missing an appointment, then there will be no impact at all. If you are unable to tell us until shortly before your appointment, in other words the same day as your appointment,or don’t tell us at all, then the missed appointment will count as one of your 48 sessions.
How many sessions can I have?
You can have up to 48 sessions. We will review how it is going at 12 weekly intervals, just to make sure that the work is properly supporting you and to make any changes that may be needed in our approach.
How much will it cost?
The full cost of a counselling session is in the region of £35. We ask clients to make a contribution to the cost but recognise that for some people that is just not possible. In these circumstances, there would be no charge.
Who will my counsellor be?
We will offer you a choice of a male or female counsellor. Whichever counsellor you get, he or she will be qualified to support you through your sessions. All our counsellors either have or are in process of achieving a qualification accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). They all receive regular supervision which ensures they themselves are properly supported in their work with you. They also have the opportunity to attend regular training to refresh and review their practice.
What if I don’t like my counsellor?
If, for whatever reason, you don’t feel able to work with your counsellor, you just need to contact the office and explain this. We will do our best to allocate a new counsellor to you as soon as possible. We would always want to have an idea why you feel unable to work with a particular counsellor so we can offer any additional support or training that may be required.
How will you contact me? I don’t want people to know I am having counselling.
When you contact us for the first time, we will check that you are comfortable with us using the number and address you give us. If you have any special requirements in terms of contact, we will make a note of these and ensure they are followed.
